Amanda Blythe Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Hello all!  My name is Amanda Ratcliff and I am the photographer of Amanda Blythe Photography.  A small fact you may be wondering about is “Blythe.”  Blythe is my middle name, also a family name that goes way back on my mother’s side of the family.  I hope you enjoy navigating through the site and more than anything, are able to see my heart here.  I believe that when you view different photos, you can always see a bit of the personality of the photographer.  I have quickly developed such a passion for this very interesting art form.

I love to catch a mother and child in a loving embrace or right when she kisses their cheek in that sweet moment.  Or when I tell the parents with small children, “Ok, it’s a wrap!  I think we’ve got enough pictures for this session.”  The children scream with excitement because now they can run wild and play without having to worry about getting their little clothes dirty.  That is the image I want to capture – the real happiness of a child – the parents running after them.  These are the things parents will want to remember for years to come.

I also love the thought of shooting the “in love” couple – whether newly engaged, newlywed or many years into their relationship; to be able to capture those in love, in the moment shots is something that excites me, the frame where the man gently kisses his love on the shoulder as if to say, “I’m here for you… forever.”  To see that love on camera is a thing of wonder.

I am a mother of one beautiful daughter, Abrielle Lynn.  She is full of spunk and charm.  So when I am taking pictures, I imagine what will capture people as they are.  Whatever beautiful personality it may be, it is my job to catch it!  I want to accentuate the positivity in people and see the joy in their eyes.

More than any of this, my passion for photography is something that I fully recognize was given to me from the Lord, Jesus.  He is the One who put this excitement and passion here.  He is my Father and without Him, I could do nothing.  With that being said, many thanks go to my Savior, without whom none of this would be possible.

                                                                                    Much love,

                                                                                    Amanda

Heather and Andrew “The In-Love Pair”

Alright, so I am extremely excited to share a little bit of the relationship between Heather and Andrew.  They are to be married this fall and I am very happy that they chose me to be their photographer.  I always get so excited whenever I have a really sweet couple that are such nice people to work with.  Heather and Andrew started off their session together in some very nice and snazzy outfits, so we took advantage of playing around in the streets of Baton Rouge all dressed up.  As with most all of my clients, it took a few shots for Heather and Andrew to warm up to the camera for a bit, but when they did oh what results came out of it!  Enough talking for now, so I hope you all enjoy viewing this sneek peek as much as I have enjoyed editing it!

Meagan’s PURE Session

Yesterday, I had the EXCITING opportunity to take some photos dealing with something that I am very passionate about.  PURITY.  For those of you who have never heard about this yet, I have an extension of the business called Amanda Blythe Photography [pure]  What this is all about is better explained on the PURE website, but for a quick breakdown, here we go…  It’s actually pretty self explanatory in the name, but this is a special session that I do for all of my pre-teen or teenage clients who are dedicating themselves to sexual purity before marriage.  I would like to reinforce that I realize this is not everyone’s point of view, but this is a way for all of you to learn a little bit more about what is close to my heart.  This is one of the issues that I am dedicated to being actively involved in as a Christian woman and mother.  I hope that you all enjoy viewing this special session and take an interest in it.  I am excited to have a new client in this branch of the business and look forward to having more in the near future!  And again I say, don’t forget to stop over the PURE website, there’s lots to look at there!  ;o)

Up next is the In-Love Pair Session from today… excited to post…

{ANGELICA’S SUBMISSION}

“Matthew and I met through mutual friends during 3 birthday celebrations in which everyone knew one another. That night Matt was sitting next to my best college friend and when I walked over to her, she and her husband introduced us since they’ve been talking to him for awhile. As for the rest of the night our friends had been trying to play cupid. It wasn’t hard since Matthew and I were interested…between you and me, he was very interested that when he needed to go to the men’s room, he wanted to ensure no one else sat next to me so he left me his phone and keys “to watch over” until he returned. It worked since when someone else sat next to me, Matt was able to ask him to move aside since his things were with me. . Matt’s words of that night “It was a night when fate was on our side.  I was a guy out for some fun and she was a girl out for the one.  We attended a party of mutual acquaintances.  Our attendance unlikely.  Despite our resistance I won her number and she won my heart.” Yes, he’s the writer in the relationship.

Since we’ve met we have been to so many places we haven’t gone to, done so many things we’ve been wanting to do, and accumulated so much happy memories…which we are still doing til this day.We have been through so much sorrow and sadness before we met, but with him by my side and me by his, we have almost forgotten the ache due to the wonderful support and love we have for one another. To think a few years ago I was a pedestrian that was hit by a cab crossing Fifth Ave in New York. To this day I go through doctors, lawyers, headaches, and heartache. A year later my father passed away and months later the man I thought I could be with wasn’t truly meant to be. He on the other hand found out a deep family secret that had rocked the foundation of his relationship with his family, and the girl he was with for years was also not meant to be.  Being with him, I truly know I have met the one person that will stand by my side, as I will stand by his side.

We have decided to have a destination wedding in Punta Cana on November 13, 2010. For practical reasons, I’m Catholic and he’s Lutheran so the pressure has been on him to go through a Catholic church wedding. Since this is OUR wedding, we opted for something we both would enjoy, not what our families wanted. Some better reasons why we wanted to do a destination wedding was that since the Philippines where I’m from is so far away, we wanted to still have that tropical feel in which we also wanted something carefree, relaxing, and would be enjoyed by everyone as a group vacation. We also wanted to continue our travels and one way to take everyone with us while traveling is having our families and friends come to a beautiful island and be a part of what we believe to be a beautiful start to a new life.”

**************************************************************************************************

{ MATTHEW’S SUBMISSION –

by the way, the subject line in Matthew’s entry stated “SHE IS MY MIRACLE”  ***MY HEART IS SMILING*** }

“On November 25, 2005 the most amazing person in my life was given a second chance to live.  And my life was destined to be joined with hers from that day on.  You see, not only is Angelica everything someone can hope for in a friend and partner.  She is the woman who almost didn’t make it into my life because of a distracted taxi driver.  Thrown on to the hood only to fall under the wheel and be dragged for two NYC city blocks.  That dramatic event has given her a view of the world and a perspective on life that I have fallen in love with.  I am the luckiest man.

My good fortune to meet Angelica for the first time was quite unlikely.  We were both invited to and talked into attending a birthday party full of many acquaintances and few friends. A party neither of us would typically attend.  Meeting person after person she stood out to me. She was so beautiful and quite out of my league.  Stand-off’ish, but friendly, not giving away an ounce of her inner thoughts to my advances.  However, I was persistent and the evening ended with her number in my hand.

That phone number has lead her and I on the most adventurous year and a half we’ve ever had.  Filled with ups and downs, lefts and rights, smiles and tears.  We wouldn’t trade one second of it for anything different.  Our first six months was filled with weddings, birthdays, christenings and weddings.  A schedule that would have challenged the most season of couples.  But not us.  We flowed through all those events without even a quibble.  We couldn’t stop smiling, or holding hands, or hugging or giving each other pecks on the cheek.  We made others gag, but we didn’t care.  The great thing is that we still don’t care about being silly and romantic in public.  We still make people gag and we love it.

Angelica and I could easily have never been in so many ways for so many reasons.  Life did all it could to keep us from meeting, but fate fought for us.  We met at the perfect place at the perfect time and have never looked back.  We are excited for the life and adventures ahead of us..

We are excited to begin the next chapter of our lives and plan to do so in Punta Cana, DR on November 13th, 2010.  We have chosen to do a destination wedding because the idea fits us.  We love the sun, the beach, the beauty of a tropical setting.  It fits our love of life, our love of adventure and most importantly our love of each other.

We would be honored to have Amanda Blythe photograph our destination wedding.

Angelica Ybanez & Matthew Criscuolo”

I know that was a good bit to read, but I really hope all of you faithful blog followers out there enjoyed reading their love story.  I didn’t expect a second entry from Matthew, but was thouroughly pleased that he sent it over.  I can’t wait to meet these stunning New Yorkers in the most beautiful place on earth, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic!  Oh and another plus for Amy and I, is that our birthdays are the week of their wedding, so hooray for a double celebration!  ;o)  This will be hard work, but boy will it be fun hard work.

And in the spirit of the island, here is a refreshing preview of where we’ll be staying!

Greg & Dory’s Wedding

I feel like I have been working for a pretty long time on this wedding, but I am so glad that it’s finally here!  I get to show off the crazy awesome day that we all had when we were celebrating Dory and Greg’s marriage.  On January 16, 2010 Dory Moss was married to Greg Roberts.  Though it was a rainy January day outside, that didn’t bring these two down.  This has been the smoothest running wedding I have ever taken photos at.  Smooth transitions, no nervousness, people were happy and full of joy over this darling couple’s committment to one another.  I thoroughly enjoyed shooting with Dory and Greg on their wedding weekend.  From the Rehearsal Dinner to the Going Away, this party was a smash!  I’m sure you’ll see just how much fun this whole family had by all of the amazing dancing shots we were able to capture.  Dory and Greg, thank you for inviting me into your family’s lives to help capture these timeless moments.  I hope you truly enjoy reminiscing on these wonderful moments with me.  Talk to you all again soon….

Getting Ready-3resized

This was a very special moment of the day.  Dory gave her father a special pocket watch that she had engaved with her father’s initals on it.  Inside, Dory had a photo of her dad’s Father and I remember Dory saying, “Dad, I knew you needed him with you today.  He needs to be with you.”  Needless to say, from that point on, all three of us were in tears.  I realized in that moment that a photographer should never attempt to take photos while her eyes are welling up with tears.  This might have been my favorite moment of the day.  Special and unforgettable.

The Pocket Watch-3resized

This is the first look session… very exciting moment.  Right before Dory tapped Greg on the shoulder he said, “This was such a great idea.”  lol….!!!!  He was so excited to see Dory.  So if you’re debating whether or not to go with the First Look Session, remember all of the excitement that you two will experience, if you go with it!

Dory and Greg sat down for a small intimate dinner before they headed out into the party.  Not even us photographers were allowed inside.  This was a very smooth transition with going from the wedding to the reception.  Great idea Greg and Dory!  The picture of them looking through the window is right before they came out into the party!!!

Father Daughter Dance-3resized

Dory and her father had the funnest, sweetest dance together.  They didn’t do the regular slow and tear jerking dance, they did a fun and carefree dance together.  I loved seeing this father, daughter relationship in action… Dory is definately a Daddy’s girl.  ;o)

Probably the coolest bachelor’s cake room I have ever seen.  They had a whole bowl full of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream next to the cake… it was awesome!!!

Check out this sequence of shots.  Dory smashes cake in Greg’s face.  Greg acts like he’s going to smash it in Dory’s.  Greg winds up, and go in for the plunge, Dory ducks and Greg smashes his best man in the face…. couldn’t have planned that moment any better!!!!  good times.  :)
